Well, the Russians were the first to send a satellite that actually landed on Venus. It did not last very long though. Venus is actually the hottest planet in the Solar System, since its Green House gases trap heat. It's brown clouds are made from sulfuric acids. Recently, NASA used radio-wave imagery to generate a map of Venus' surface, since its clouds block us from actually seeing its surface with visible light.

You can get the technical info from wikipedia:
The planet is named after Venus, the Roman goddess of love.
No humans have landed on Venus, its too hot, the metal lead will melt on the surface and the pressure is to great. It will literally crush you!
Venus is the brightest object in the sky after the Sun and Moon. Most people confuse Venus with the aircrafts landing lights (they think its an airplane).
Venus can only be seen at most 4 hours after sunset and 4 hours before sunrise.
Earth based telescopes cannot see the the surface of venus becasue the cloud/atmosphere cover is too thick.
The day on Venus is longer than its year.
Venus has no moons.
Venus is the only planet that rotates in the wrong direction.

Venus is the closest to Earth in size and density. Venus is extremely hot! Hotter than it should be just by its distance from the sun. The reason for this is the cloud cover. It is like global warming gone crazy. Venus' atmosphere is very caustic as well (the opposite of acid). The Russians sent a probe or two to the planets surface years ago and the machine was only able to send back information for a few minutes before the electronics and wiring totally rusted. Venus is a nasty place.

americans have landed pioneer venus 2 on the surface as a probe.
facts about the planet:
-it has a retrograde spin, it spins clockwise while other planets spin counter clockwise
-it has an atmosphere, very thick!!
-it is considered earth's sister planet and is the fourth brightest object in the sky
-does not have a moon circling it, one of two planets to not have so
-it takes longer for venus to make one rotation than to orbit around the sun

Yes, the Russians did, way back in the 1960s. Their lander even sent back some pictures before it melted into a little puddle. The pictures I believe were only black and white, and pretty low-tech, but it shows a bunch of rocks and pebbles. The surface temperature was/is about 800F. As a point of comparison, paper catches fire at 451F.

No one could ever survive on Venus. For one the gravity is so strong it would crush a human. second the air there is made up of sulferic acid. it would eat thru any suit a human had. It is also hot enough to melt lead. So Venus is not a place I would want to visit anytime soon

It pretty big but not as big as some planets. Its round and a bit to close to the sun for keeping milk out of the refrigerator.

it is the hottest planet in the solar system because of the clouds absorbing heat from the sun and realising it into its air and atmosphere
