If I sit and think for a bit, I can think of at least a few. The Everly Brothers came out with a few. Songs like "So Sad to Watch Good Love Go Bad" (later covered on a live album, Last Date(?) by Emmylou Harris); "Ebony Eyes" (about a girl one of the Everlys, supposedly, planned to marry but died in a plane crash on a late night of a snowstorm). There's also another song by the Everly Brothers that is a Christmas song (I haven't heard it yet), but it's really downtrodden & depressing. I don't know if that one is about a lost love. There's a song NOT by the Everlys, but by Kenny Rogers called "Lucille." Other songs are "Blue Christmas", "How Could This Happen To Me" (actually untitled) (Simple Plan) about someone killed in drunk driving, among others. The song "Last Kiss" was also performed by Wednesday and also by another guy from the 50s or 60s.

Well first of all, I'm really sorry for your loss. It's never easy to deal with, no matter how strong you think you are. = (
For me, "I'll Be Missing You" by Puff Daddy (his name at the time, lol) and Faith Evans always gets to me. Such a great song...
And "I Wish" by R. Kelly - that one's nice too...
But i think the best would be "Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton...he wrote it when his son died, and it's such a touching song...
Good Luck with the CD!

I just lost my mother in Feburary of cancer... any song makes me sad but when I lost the first person who was close to me and close in my age when I was 11 the song that did, and still made me cry and think of people dying and going to heaven is One Sweet Day, Miriah Carey and Boyz II Men.

These aren't rap but they are wonderful songs (sad though):
Yesterdays - Switchfoot (literally about someone who died... heartbreaking song)
Say Goodbye - Sanctus Real
Benjamin - Sanctus Real
They are all by Christian artists but the songs don't talk about God specifically so a wide range of appeal...
I'm sorry you and your friend are in such a tough situation :(
