I just went for my first ob appointment at 13 weeks. I felt unusually large for dates and my uterus already felt heavy. When the midwife checked me she said I felt like I was 16 weeks along already. When she checked for a heartbeat, she found one on me left side and then my right. She said they sounded about the same rate; so she think it's the same baby. She orderd an u/s to check the dates. Although, I know my date are right I had a normal on time period before I got pregnant. It was definilty not implantation bleeding. I have 2 weeks until I get my u/s and the wait is awful. Could this be twins?

When I was pregnant with my twins..I grew twice as fast as a single pregnancy. You should have an ultrasound done.

Hearing two separate heart rates is a good sign of twins, so if yours were the same, the chance for twins is less, but still possible, esp. if the twins are the same sex (i.e. girls will have similar heartbeats and so will boys).

Measuring large is not always a reliable indictaor because your due date might be a little off (or your supposed date of conception). Also, women carry their babies differently.

Are your pregnancy symptoms exaggerated? For example, women with twins often have worse back pain, worse morning sickness, etc etc. It's like everything is "doubled."

Twins are an exciting possibility! Best of luck!

Could be, but could be your dates are off or the baby is large. You can pick up the same baby in multiple locations using a doppler. If she thinks they sound like one baby, she knows better. That being said twins are always a possibility. The chance of twins in a normal, unassisted pregnancy are about 3%.
Best of luck.

it could be your baby changing postions my son would do that all the tome when i was pregnant he would switch spots and be on one side and then the next time another spot it is common for babys to move around alot the farther along you get the more active they get as well i wouldnt worry about it just enjoy your pregnancy!

There is that possibility. The doctor thought that of my daughter at 12 weeks, but when we did the ultrasound, there was just one!
