svchost.exe error could be a virus, but it could just be something a simple as a bad update". There was a rash of bad updateslast week. Boot to safe mode if necessary, then roll your system to before tast tuesday or whenever the issue started, reboot, turn off auto updates manually do windows updates, reboot, turn autoupdates back on. Hopefully its not a virus and just this little inconvenience. As always, remember not to put bad software on your system, AOell, limewire, banzai buddy, bearshare, weatherbug, smileys, free screensavers, etc.

Without knowing more about your specific set up I can't be sure this will help. But it appears that svchost.exe is a critical win xp file (short for service host). However, it shouldn't be taking up all your cpu. It's not a virus, but could mean a vulnerability. In short, you want to make sure your computer is updated and that your firewall is working. The key word in scvhost.exe is HOST. You are currently being plagued by something called Windows hysteria. It happens when ignorant people buy a Microsoft computer instead of a Mac. As for the .exe file, it is probably a virus, or a tricky attempt for someone to access your computer and compromise its security. I recommend you delete it, pitch that garbage PC and buy a Mac.

its possible that something got corupted. i have this problem on one of my laptops. its also possible that another process is forcing your system process to run at 100. try shuting different processes down till you find the one that causes the system to bog.
