house im buying?

the house im buying is 138 years old a big victorian one its great but i would like to know if there is any way i can find out who has lived in this house and if there is any history to it any idears

city hall, public records can tell u all previous owners, orignal specs of the apartment and any additions donw tot eh house over time! bring adress to city/town hall and they can even give u the blue prints!

The town/city will have information on file in the tax office. The tax card will generally have the current and past owners listed on it, though they may not have records all the way back to when the home was built. Sometimes the file may have a copy of the deed, and building permits or other documentation on the home.

Your local county government should be the recorder/registrar/clerk/whatever of deeds. The deeds can tell you who the previous owners were.

You can then runs those person's names through the court records for your area and find out if anything "happened" in the house. Your lolcal newspaper may also have a searchable "morgue" that you can run those names through. If the house is "famous" locally, then the historical society may be able to tell you things about it.

You may be able to track the history of ownership(s) at your local Register of Deeds, or whichever agency in your area is responsible for maintaining land records. Other than that, you might get some information from a local historical society.
