Centrino is Intel's product designed specifically for the laptop market. Pentium is an older technology originally designed for desktop computers.

main thing is power consumption. the centrinos are a little less powerful and use less power (increasing battery life) if you are getting a laptop get the centrino unless you are using it to hard core game. but then realize that you will probably have to almost constanly be pluged into power. if you can get a new processor (64bit)

centrino is for laptops. pentium is ok but not for a good computer.
