I won't comment on the choice of abortion or not since that is another topic, but I do feel that once the decision has been made to have a child, it then becomes the responsibility of both to provide for the welfare of that child.
It took two to create and just because the man states that he doesn't want the child, that does not bar him from his responsibility. Plus it is unfair to require a single parent to shoulder the full burden with the other parent getting off Scott free.
I think what has distorted the issue too is that you have a lot of irresponsible adults who take the child support and use if primarily for their benefit and state that it is an expense that the child will get to share within... I think the child support issue is a two fold situation. Back to the question posed here it is his responsibility as the biological father to contribute until that has been legally erased.

Children are the future of our country. Parents should support them to the best of their ability.
I don't have children, but I'm required to pay taxes that support our local school system. Should I be exempt? I'd dearly love to say no, but I want to make sure that we have the best educated children possible. When I'm "really" old and "finally" admit to being gray, I want to be surrounded by the smartest people in the world.
If a guy isn't smart enough to use a condom when he is having sex, he needs to go back to school to learn that it just doesn't prevent unplanned children -- he could also get one of a zillion STDs.
Of course, the woman shouldn't have allowed herself to have unprotected sex.
In the end, the children of these arrangements shouldn't suffer. I know one woman whose former significant other wouldn't pay and didn't want anything to do with her or the child. So, the woman went to court and he agreed to be completely emancipated from the child. Fortunately, she has a good job and wonderful support system. Not all women are that lucky.
By the way, I also know several men who have eagerly taken over the full responsibility of their unplanned children.
I think we need to be careful with questions that polarize people.

You are not an Idiot, because the law is written that way. This will change abit if and when constitutional rights are restablished to the Fetus with the overturning of Roe. If this can be accomplished, then the mother will have limits placed on her, balancing out the equation. People can be charged with Double murder for killing a fetus. In one instance the Fetus has rights, When Mom and the doctor do it the Fetus loses and has no rights.

He has no say over the fetus because it is part of another person's body. Just like he has no say over her kidney or stomach.
He has to pay child support because it's the law. He should have thought of the consequences before he got her pregnant.
If you're asking; 'should a decision about abortion be made by both parties?' Idealy yes, but this is a less that ideal world.

The man had a say....he did not have to put his organ into mom's vagina and ejaculate. Once he surrendered control over his sperm, he had to face the consequences of his act....just as mom is facing the consequences of admitting a <****> with the morals of a tomcat into her womb.
It's a woman's right to choose. That includes having the baby every bit as much as terminating the pregnancy. If you can't pay to support a baby, you should use a condom, or practice abstinence. Goodness, what a concept this is: responsibility.
You had your fun, now it's time to face the music and support your child.

AMEN!
Men are always told to own up to their responsibilty and take care of the child even when they don't want the child and don't feel that they should be forced into anything.
And the argument that it's her body doesn't hold water because that baby is part of his body and he should have a say in the matter.

Can people answer a question with out name calling. That is just ridiculous. Back to your question, a real man wouldn't mind paying child support for their own child.

Good question.
Her body her choice to bring the child into the world and should follow that she should take care of it all by herself if a man has no say in the matter.

Exactly, she can get an abortion even if he wants to keep the child and willing to raise it alone, but if she decided to keep it, he needs to pay child support. It is crazy.

Very good point. Double talk. "Don't tell me what to do with my body (after you have been inside of me and created a fetus with me)" but be responsible, be a "man" and pay up.
