I feel your pain. The same thing happens with mens clothes too. I just do not know why. I would partly say that it would have to do with the quality of Old Navy clothing but I feel that this would happen at other stores too.

Because they are made by humans. If you will look at the tag you will probably find that they were made somewhere overseas. If they were know that overseas manufacturers do not pay taxes to the U.S. and they are not held to as strict of guidelines as U.S manufacturers. In most cases it costs more to ship the garment than it does to produce it. With that being said you can see that there is not alot of quality control. Labor is cheap prices are high and most of what you spent on those pants was for marketing and shipping. If you realize that the labor costs about .25 cents per hour its not difficult to see why quality is where we take the hit. Also know this. I am told that the beautiful Christmas decorations especially the lights are made in China. The workers making the lights are actully Prisoners made to sit on the ground or floor and assembly X number of lights per day. They are prisoners for only one reason. It seems that it is a crime to be a practicing Christian in China. Oh they can get out of prison, all they have to do is renounce Christianity. That is the life of the person making this stuff and we persue cheaper prices and settle for less quality all in the name of saving a buck. I am quilty for buying it too. We should go back to ( MADE IN THE USA ) Seems like we got alot of people needing a job now days. Since Memorial Day gas has plumeted 18 cents a gallon, I suppose the routine maintanence must be nearing completion. So there is my rant and rave as to why your pants dont fit. Tell me why a man can wear an American made shirt and his size is 3xl but with a shirt made in China a 5xl will not cover his stomach? Oh its big enough in the stomach to go around but it is too tight in the shoulders... it would be great if I was shaped like a pear and stood 4 feet tall....

remember this next time you shop at your friendly wal mart.
I have been wal mart free for over a yr now and my wife tells me we are saving money.... over last yrs budget....

Well I really understand this, and I think I can tell you why.
I happen to be a curious person who loves to see films on how things are made. Once I saw one on how they cut clothing.
They make stacks of fabric with the pattern on the top and the pattern is cut with something similar to an electric knife.
In this way if the stack is not cut exactly vertical on the lines, the lower part of the stack can be bigger than the top ones.
Understand?
When I buy multiples of something that I really like I make sure I try each piece on before purchase. Because I too have been stung with this problem.
Just remember you are buying "off the rack" not tailor made custom clothes made to just your measurements.
Just test them before you purchase next time.

It's because Old Navy clothes, like all clothes, are made by machines and people. Which are not perfect, so though clothes are the same size, they may fit a little differently because there is a slight variation since humans and machines are imperfect.

Are you sure they are exactly the same? I've had the same problem with Old Navy. I bought 2 seemingly identical shirts but one was perfect, and the other was huge. After inspecting the tags, I found that they had different style numbers so they weren't the same shirt.

usually made in another country. No 2 pairs of pants ever fit the same. When they cut the patterns and sew they are probably paid by the quantity not quality, so that is why they all fit differently.

There are no standards for clothes sizes. Generally, the dress size will be smaller for a given actual size the more you pay for it. This is because women with money can be conned into shopping at up scale stores so they can tell their friends they wear a size 8. If they got the same dress at JC Pennys it would be a size 12.
