For Webber and Nease: My father told me when I was very young that they put the flags out all over town on that day because it was his birthday. I believed him for many years, and even told my kids it was because of their grandfather's birthday. Now I am going to try it with my grandkids and see what happens.
In truth, it is not an official holiday in the USA, but it may be in some states. Most people in the USA will just be doing whatever they would normally do on any other Thursday. Some of the VFW and American Legion posts will probably have a small ceremony. Traditionally, this is the day worn and tattered flags are disposed of in a ceremony with one of the veteran's organizations.
