I have a Netgear wireless router. I want to enable my WEP yet when I do, my wireless connection goes out and I can't log onto the internet. I called Netgear and they wont help me unless I pay 37 bucks. I don't wanna pay 37 dollars for them to tell me how to click a few buttons. When I enable the WEP it asks me to enter a pass phrase, after I do that it generates key codes. Once that is done I click apply and it will not let me do anything. I contacted my ISP and they say contact Netgear. Can anyone give me a step by step way to enable the WEP and my internet still work. If you are willing or want to help me in-depth send me an email please. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for the information on the first comment. I don't care if the whole world has my e-mail because it's just the one I use for yahoo answers. It's not my private e-mail.

You are half way there. Not only do you have to enable the WEP on your router but now you have to enter the key in your computer also. To do this follow the below instructions.

-Goto Control Panel
-Click on network Connections
-Right click on the wireless connection and select Properties
-Click on the Wireless Networks Tab and find the name of the router you connect to in the prefered networks window
-Select it and click on properties
-Under the encryption method choose the method you are using (WEP)
-Under Network Key input your key that you have in the router
-Hit OK and then go connect to the wireless network. That should be it.

Enabling WEP on the router is only half of the equation. You also need to set up the wireless network on your computer with the id your router is broadcasting and the WEP key codes that you put in the router. Open wireless connections, click on change advanced settings, click on the wireless networks tab. If your router isn't showing in the list of available networks, add it and mark as WEP and enter the key codes. If your router already shows, change the properties so that WEP is marked and enter key codes.

If you allowed email in your Yahoo! Answer profile, you wouldn't have to give your email address out to the world. The emails are sent confidentially by Yahoo, never revealing your address. I don't have WEP, so I can't help you, but I found a forum thread that might help, at least someone with a similar problem seemed to get it solved.
