I have been wearing acrylic nails for the past 5 years and rarely get fills, I just get a new set. Well, I'm having a baby in the next month so I want to stop wearing the acrylics. I took them off about a week ago, and now my nails are splitting, so I keep clipping them short .. but they are very dry. How can I get moisture and strength to them? I don't plan on having acrylics for at least the next 6 months.
Thanks!

1) Avoid using nail clippers. Clippers separate the layers & aggravate splitting.Only use a file to keep them short. Revlon makes a good one for weak nails.

2) Use a mild soap like Dove to wash your hands.

3) Use a thick moisturizer on your nails to shield them from water. e.g. plain Chapstick, Vaseline, Aquaphor Healing Ointment

4) Apply lotion often throughout the day and wear gloves while doing the dishes.

5) In the evening, massage in a nail oil, jojoba oil or vitamin E oil before going to bed.

mix a baby oil or vaseline with an intensive moisturizer hand cream..apply it to ur hands and wear a cotton gloves you can fine them in "the body shop"..

ur nails will be realllly moistured and reallllly u will feel that they are silk..

and also try not to put these fake nails they do nothing but harm ur nails..also dont forget to cut the nails that were under the acrylic nail..until they all grow new and healthy..
and congratulatins for the new baby now..

PS..dont apply any manicure and dont file ur nails..

god bless u and the baby :)

good luck

i've had the same problem and i find that using moisturisers such as Chapstick, Vaseline, or Aquaphor works very well. Also do not scrape your nails or else they will split (i've had the personal expierence)

good luck on the baby :)

Use lotion for hands/nails, along with cuticle oil every night before going to sleep - it works for me, my nails are perfect!
