does anyone know a website with pictures of different types of baby turtles, so i can classify what kind mine is?
Also,
Do all turtles eat the same foods and can they all live, or stand in water for a long period of time, or would some of them drown?
How do i get my baby turtle to stop sticking his head in its shell? i tried putting a grass out in front of it, but all it did was stare at it.

1. Photo gallery: World of Turtles at http://www.austinsturtlepage.com

2. Same food? No, there are several typical categories, however. Most pond turtles eat about the same thing, as do most box turtles, most forest tortoises, and most grassland tortoises.

3. Water? Like the diet, there are all kinds, from those that like a water tank with a small basking space, to those that only want a small drinking water dish. Putting a turtle in the wrong kind of habitat will kill it. (This applies to things like temps, humidity, etc. as well.)

4. Pulling its head in? That is a fear reaction. Leave it alone- it is afraid you will attack and kill it- you are, after all, a scary giant!

5. Grass does not mean much to most turtles, other than the giant sticking stuff in front of it.

I know all about turtles and almost every kind because I have 4 turtles that are water turtles. 1 of them is a yellow bellied turtle and the other 3 of them are red eared sliders. Well just go to google and type in "All kinds of turtles" and then you should know the rest when the page comes up. well you can tell if the turtle is a land or water turtle by there feet and shell because water turtles have webbed feet and a smooth shell but land turtles don't have webbed feet and they have a shell that goes up then down. But I don't think land turtles will drown because I don't think any turtles can drown. You can go to the pet store to boy turtle pellets for them to eat or just give them bugs, worms, or lettuce. My turtles love all of those things. They don't like it when you watch them eat that is why he is not eating it when your watching him eat it. Oh and also they only stick their head in their shell because they are scared and they don't know you yet so just give them the food and leave and just come back later. Well everything I just told you came from a professional. Bye!

Where did you get the turtle from? If it was a pet store, they would have kept it in a terrarium if it was a land turtle, or an aquarium if it was a water turtle. Young water turtles sold in pet stores are usually red eared sliders - check wikipedia for photos. The young are carnivorous, which is why he just looks at the grass. Go to a pet store and get the floating pellets for him - while you are there, get a few feeder fish to put in the tank for him to practice his hunting skills on. You'll see the setup in the store, water turtles need a light source to bask in and dry out - someplace that is completely out of water.
Now, if you found this little critter out in the wild, take him back to the safest place you can as close as you can to where he was.
Wash your hands after handling him, turtles can transmit e. coli, salmonella, and a lot of other nasty stuff to humans.

http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/care.htm is a site that seems to have a lot of good, detailed information on proper turtle care - especially diet and habitat.

There is also a photo gallery, although I believe it is full of broken links right now.
