A laptop is a PC and a desktop is a PC. Macs are not PCs.
A laptop is for portability and convienence.
A desktop is for power, flexability and reliability.
Laptops are more easily lost, stolen or broken.
Laptops have very small upgrade paths.
Desktops are the opposite.

First ask your self these questions.
Am i going to travel alot?
If yes a laptop if no a desktop
Am i going to do extensive gaming and video watching?
If yes you probobly want a pc but computer companys such as alienware offer really fast laptops that rival some pc speeds
THese are only two of the most impotant things to worry about but there are more questions to be asked. I though would go with the pc over a laptop they are just a lot more reliable and have a unlimited power supply

I would buy a laptop, and then I would attach a conventional keyboard and a conventional mouse. A PC takes a lot of desk space and lacks portability. At present you can get units of either kind with similar specifications at a similar price. That's worth it for portability and space saving.

It depends on what and where I was going to use it.
If I did a lot of traveling, I would consider the lap top, even though I hate the mouse mechanism.
If I was just setting up an office, I would definitely go with a desk top. It may take up more room, but in the end, they are a lot easier to upgrade and you do not have to worry about the battery pack.

I'd buy a laptop. I already have one and they're much more convenient than pcs because you can take them everywhere which is better if you're a college student like me :)

It really depends on the use you are give it...
- if you travel a lot --> laptop
- if you don't have to much space to locate it --> laptop
I prefer PC, it's easier (and cheaper) to find spare parts, more comfortable, you can 'mod' it...
