Players from both Milwaukee and Anaheim have stolen home plate this year.
In fact Carl Crawford stole home clean on Boston last year.
Here's the link.

Well the Blue Jays have stolen home-base against Andy Pettitte caught off guard, good move for them. For the Yankees, it's not what a playoff calibur team does.
However if you want to knock the Yankees for allowing homeplate to be stolen, the same Jays team also allowed homeplate to be stolen by the Orioles in their last trip to Baltimore.
The pitcher made a pick-off move to Brian Roberts on first base, Roberts was running in an attempt to steal second. He caught himself a rundown, distract the defense long enough for Corey Patterson, the runner on 3rd to pick his spot, catch the defense off gaurd and steal home beating the throw.
So while the stolen base at home is extremely rare, it's not a defensive lapse that's exclusive to the Yankees this season.
That being said, with every game it seems like the wheels keep coming off for the Yankees, 14 back of the Red Sox now. The season may not be over, but Clemens can't help THAT much to erase a 14 game defecit to the Red Sox. Especially when the AL east doesn't have a weak line-up in it (when healthy). I wouldn't exactly look for the Yankees to dominate the Orioles or the D-Rays either like they've been known to do generally over the years.

I wouldn't necessarily put that on the whole Yankee team. Usually when someone steals home, it is because of one guys mistake. Guys on 3rd are never held on and can get a pretty big lead-off. In this case, Pettite was caught dozing when he was staring at the running on 1st too long.
Last year I believe Carl Crawford stole home because whoever the Red Sox catcher at the time lofted the ball back lazily to the pitcher and Crawford with already a huge lead-off was able to capitalize.

basically checked the field score and it is already 3-0 Yankees, and nevertheless the real of the 1st and only one out! I say Yankees win this recreation.. Gaudin's greater useful than Romero, who's already given up 3 hits and 2 walks in a million/3 of an inning. i think of the Yankees will win the sequence too =/

Its a timing play. He wasn't held at third base by A-rod and he casually walked towards home before he started to sprint. I've seen it done by Carl Crawford recently. I think it was last year versus the Bosox. It's a great play when it works and stinks when hes thrown out at home. Clearly the Yankees are stinking up the place recently but watch for a come back of the ages.

Just goes to show how sloppy our team is playing!! Yes it is pathetic, just as pathetic as it was last yr,when Carl Crawford stole home against your red sox!! only difference is,your team was in 1st place when it happened!! So it really didn't hurt the red sox,,We on ther other hand, need to pay attention more,we can't afford to play sloppy!!

Stealing home is not common, but it does happen once or twice a year. Another play similar to a steal of home is the suicide squeeze which is basically a sacrifice bunt where someone is coming home. In the AL East, where the home run is king, stealing bases, sacrifices, and bunting is a lost art. Watch some real baseball played in the AL Central and you will see how the game is really played.

Home plate has been stolen before but usually done on a double steal. Remember Ty Cobb was well known for this.

O.K.
Blue Jays
Let's
Play
Ball!!!
It happens, but not too often. Usually only with runners on 1st and 3rd ... If the bases were loaded, the guy at 1st base couldn't steal 2nd ... while the pitcher is concentrating on the runner at first the runner on third takes advantage of it.

typically it's done on double steals (runner on 1st and 3rd) and it's not done often today at all.
Rod Carew was the last person to do it frequently.
Paul Molitor (I believe) was the last to steal 2nd, 3rd, then home.
It's said that about 50 of Ty Cobbs career stolen bases were of home plate.
