You will have to install the software your ISP gave you for your old computer onto the lap top and will probably have to update your ISP account.
I hope I helped.

hi there
you have broadband right? well firstly, do you have a wireless Router, Wired Router or USB modem?
If you have a Wireless Router, you may also find your laptop have a wireless card, [to save space, i have missed out the details, follow this link for full instructions - http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AscCEcYQHIlz_6fyyZP_lEshBgx.?qid=20070528093328AAZfkBU&show=7#profile-info-TJuJNfvaaa - not quite the same, but the same settings apply
If you have a wired router, you can just buy a patch cable from your local PC shop, and connect one end to your router, and the other to your laptop.
If it is a USB modem, you will need to buy a crossover cable, and share the internet connection [again, to save space i have ommitted the details, follow this link though - http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AsRTWpcPw976_YJwhBMXQgMhBgx.?qid=20070529110012AAMulIP&show=7#profile-info-ycSJf2Vmaa - not quite the same, but the same effect
hope it helps a lot, and there is a lot of text done, by me!

most likely there is an incompatibility between the broadband connecting device and the drivers in Vista, there may or may not be a driver available to fix it. My suggestion is to check with your ISP or the Microsoft Vista support site

There are a couple of ways to get connected. 1. You can purchase a network router or switch. Plug the internet cable from your modem into the router and then run 2 cables from the router to your computers. 2. You can purchase a WIFI router. Again, run the cable from your modem to the router. You can then run a cable to your desktop, and WIFI to your laptop.

you will get application and cables for archives circulate, and this may be nicely worth thinking in case you have vast quantities to circulate. yet often a USB thumb force, or a writable CD are extra handy and extra handy for extensive-unfold purposes.
