I am 19. I've never acted in any productions, and I'm usually kind of afraid of public speaking. I think, though, that acting may be a way for me to break out of my phobia and become something of an artist as well. I wonder if I'm too old, though, to start acting. Thoughts?

first of all...19 isnt old....i started acting when i was 12 and now i am 16 and i actually never knew what i could do till i came into high school and this director, Mr. James Falkland, introduced me to theater and showed me whats hidden inside me and what i believe is that there is an actor hidden somewhere inside in every single person. join more clubs that do small skits and stuff like that...a small audience will start giving you the boost and then slowly by slowly you will be able to speak to a hundred thousand people without any fear. at meals with friends or family read out an article from a news paper...it doesnt have to be reallly long!!!!

Acting is a great way to gain confidence. I was a very shy person up until I was 14 and was in a play. For some reason all my shyness just disappears when I'm onstage or acting for the camera. It's very liberating and the confidence finds its way into your daily life as well.
19 is definitely not too old! Look for an acting class, if you're in college, take one from the school drama department and see how you like it. If you're not in college, some schools will let you audit a course (sit in, sometimes participate, but not receive credit or a grade, and you don't have to pay for it).
