I was thinking a snub nose .38 or the taurus titanium hammerless .357 mag. a .25 just seems too small and I think a revolver would be more reliable.

It depends on what gun manufacturer you like. Some poeple don't like Glocks because they are plastic. Some don't like Walthers because they are "whatever".

Anyway, you should first go to a gun store and try out several different guns in your hand to see how they feel to you before you even shoot it. Some grips are larger than others. Some are made with odd type ribbing for the grip area. If it feels comfortable in your hands, then it will likely feel fine when you shoot it. Then, if you have a way of shooting them, try that. You may really like a gun that you didn't think you would like when you first saw it.

I would go with a .380 or .25. Now, Glock makes a compact 9mm that is good. Just take all the answers from here and figure out what is best for you. Keep in mind that you will spend more for certain types of guns. Used isn't bad if you can count on the dealer.

If you're set a revolver, then you've already answered part of your own question. No need to look for a semi-automatic.

Oh, and by the way, don't let any of the "gun geeks" talk you out of a certain caliber. Some of them say that they would never own or use a .22 caliber because of lack of stopping power. Hmmm? I've never seen anyone volunteer to stand in front of one on purpose just to see what it felt like.

Manufacturer: Beretta USA
Action: Blowback semiauto
Caliber: .22 Long Rifle
Capacity: 10
Barrel length: 4 1/2, 6 or 7 1/2 inches
Overall length: 10.3 inches (6-inch bbl.)
Weight: 35.8 inches (6-inch bbl.)
Sights: Fully adjustable target rear, blade front (plus integral rail for Weaver-style mounts)
Grips: Replaceable modular units with colored rubber inserts
Finish: Blued or stainless
Price: $250 to $300 (depending on barrel length and finish)

Don't laugh...yes it's a .22...but...target practice won't cost you an arm and a leg...and you can put rounds down range FAST...so, as far as an aggressor...it has stopping power...you should consider trying each weapon before you make a choice. As far as bang for your buck...you can't beat this weapon.

I carry a 1911 Govt, but I would never carry anything under a 9MM Lugar or .38 Special

Walther PPK.

If it's good enough for James Bond and the Berlin PD, it's probably good enough for you, too.
