Help - I'm going mad!!! Desperately trying to assist son with homework but have had a mental block. Can anyone help with multiplying out expression x(2+3x/20) 3x/20 is a fraction. I know this answer will be so simple - please prevent me from having a sleepless night!!!! Thanks!!

As you have written it, it means "x times (2+3x/20) times 3x/20". But have you missed out a plus or minus before the 3x/20? (Because I cannot type indices take a= x squared) then x(2+3x/20) + 3x/20 = 2x + 3a/20 + 3x/20 = 40x/20 + 3a/20 +3x/20 = 43x/20 + 3a/20. If the term is correct as written then (taking b = x cubed) the answer is 6a/20 + 9b/400.

Just use what's called the distributive property. Multiply the unknown quantity outside the parentheses by each term inside the parentheses and then add them up.

x(2+3x/20) = (2 * x) + [2 * (3x/20)] = 2x + (3x²)/20.
