Yes, it appears that your video adapter is built into the motherboard and uses 32mb of shared memory, which makes your total available memory drop to 480mb.

If you add a regular video card, then you could try going into BIOS setup and disabling the motherboard video option, which might free up that 32mb (it might not, some systems keep that memory reserved no matter what- but usually you can).

Of course as long as you're opening up the computer to upgrade stuff, you might add another 256mb or 512mb of RAM, which would make a much bigger difference than getting back the 32mb your built-in video is currently using.

If you don't have a standalone video card, that 32mb is not available as regular memory, it's what allows you to see thhings on the screen.

It is indeed true that your computer has 512 installed RAM. Out of this 32 Mb is assigned to the onboard Video Graphics adapter. If you assign this back to the system then you will probably not have any Video and your computer may start having lots of issues. Normally there are a few ways out of this and that is to get a good quality standalone Graphics Adapter with enough memory perhaps 128 Mb and higher. Once you get this standalone Graphics adapter, you can simply disable your onboard graphics Adapter and assign enough of it back to the System. But after doing all this some portion of the RAM will still remain assigned to the Graphics adapter. This is because the Motherboard is built this way.

If you want to be really sure that none of your system RAM is ever taken away for Graphics and all that then the best option will be to get a new Motherboard without onboard graphics Adapter. If you are so much worried about this RAM being assigned to the motherboard, then if possible, you should get a higher capacity RAM Stick and so even if a measly 32 Mb is assigned to the onboard graphics adapter you would not have to worry.

If you have an after market video card and you computer will allow you to reduce the onboard video RAM to 0 then it will not affect your computer at all, exept for the gain of system RAM. I doubt it will allow you to reduce the video RAM below 8 mb regardless if you have a addon video card or not. If it did you would not have any video.
You would be well servered to add a new video card with 128mb+ and bump your RAM to 768mb if possable.
