On the America's Next Top Model, the ladies who are trying to make it in the Modeling Industry were really skinny. Is this something that is becoming the new "beautiful"? When you see an actress who is losing a large amount of weight, the first thing you see in the magazines is that they are "anorexic". Why is it a must to be super skinny as a model, but any normal person would be called " anorexic"?

who knows? america's image of beautiful is ultra skinny, 82 lb. models. alot of women who don't look like that are much more beautiful. the ironic thing about it is that the world is getting fatter than ever (thanks to mcdonalds) but we seem to seek perfection in stuck up, too-skinny models. i don't quite understand the deal about our country these days.

the skinny model thing is actually an old thing that dates back to 60s and 70s. It is just more visible and people are taking notice of it more now. In the past if a model or actress lost a large amount of weight, there was a very good chance that they actually WERE anorexic. Some models recently died in Brazil becase of being anorexic. They were sisters and did wihtin a very short time of each other.

We as a nation are overweight. Our children are now getting what used to be called "adult onset diabetes" in their teens. My brother in med school told me of a case where a 14 year old boy was rushed to the emergency room because he was having a heart attack brought on by diabetes. He was considered morbidly obese and that had caused him to get diabetes much sooner.

The reason you are seeing it more and more is that the media is everywhere. They are throwing this stuff around and frankly they have nothing else to talk about.

As far as why models need to be super skinny...the on going argument is that clothing tends to drape better on somebody who is skinny than larger. Most samples from designers are sizes 2 - 4. Average american woman is 5'4" and weighs 163. And they wonder why none of us like what we look like?

I find this whole skinny models thing to be very funny. People are making a huge deal lately in the media about skinny models. Yes, many runway models are too thin. But what kills me is that a massive amount of the population in America is overweight, including small children. Diabetes in children and adults is through the roof in this country - higher than it has ever been and it is a huge health problem which is largely caused by terrible eating habits and being grossly overweight (note*yes-not always). Yet everyone is talking about skinny models. Skinny models are undoubtedly less than 1 percent of the population. I think people should realize that the skinny model story is a bit sensationalized because it makes for a good headline. It's such an easy target because let's face it, peole who are overweight can find pleasure in being able to have the spotlight on someone else's weight for a change. But lets get serious here. Obesity/morbid obesity is a HUGE problem in our country. Skinny models, while they are not good role models you pattern yourself after, are far less of a problem than obesity. When one or two models in the world die of anorexia, that's huge news. But how many people in our country die of heart attacks and weight-related problems every single day? You can bet it's thousands and thousands.

i think models especially who do ramp modelling are skinny,

they are expected to be skinny coz they need to fit into any and every designers outfit,
the outfits are not designed to the size of the models .. hence the model must fit all outfits...

at the same time, celebs , actors, even beauty pageant contestants are not as skinny, they need to be curvaceous in the right places.. that cant happen if they are skinny...

there is a growing trend to be healthy, with the right diet and exercise..
that is becoming more evident with people like beyonce, Madonna, Angelina Jolie, Haley berry... who are considered sexy coz they have great bodies and which they have worked out in the gym for...

if u realize, people who loose weight suddenly thru adverse means look haggard too... whereas people who work out look energetic...

if the people want to be models, they need to look good!
what i can't stand are the new fat models!!! some lazy as chick who sits on the coach eating potatoe chips should NOT get to be a model -- UNFAIR!!! models need to work on their bods and not just sit around taking photos around the world!!!
anorexic isn't good, but i've seen a lot of skinny models who don't look anorexic, yet are fit, healthy, and slender!
it's called WORK...if i pick up a copy of Vogue and find some fat chick sitting on the cover, i'll never pick up that magazine again!!!

no longer all women anybody is like this. i think of that's by using fact the media, magazines, television and so on are all continuously throwing relatively exceedingly skinny nicely toned women human beings in our faces and then we verify out our own bodies and notice we are slightly out of shape in places, some thing that seems slightly overweight like around the tummy or some thing and so on and a few human beings initiate thinking they are fat. that's totally unhappy. Even I especially situations think of my abdomen seems slightly fat arranged to the those women those with nicely toned bellies yet I in basic terms way ninety 8 pounds. i think of that's basically my mind's eye although. there is not any way i'm gonna lose any weight by using fact i'm easy sufficient already. The media must be doing extra to coach which you would be able to look solid what ever your physique shape.
