I am using a $40 Belkin wireless router and a cable modem. I live in an apt. complex. My connection is WEP and has an SSID, but my connection keeps going from 54 mbps to like 35 mps. The lights 1,2,3&4 are all lit up on the router itself. Is someone using my connection? 192.168.2.1 is the firmware

35Mbps is just the speed of your PC connect to the router is on, it drops to match the surrounding and lost signal.

The lights 1 2 3 4 are more to do with direct wire connection, and shouldnt be on unless you have PC connected to the box using a wire.

Most router has the ability to log all usage, or show how many PC are connected.

To play safe, do not use WEP, its easily hack, best to use WPA .

Go into the router via the http connection. look at the wireless dhcp and see if it has given out any additional addresses. Even if someone used it 3 days ago or last week the router will show if an address was given out. Most likely the drop in speed is your provider getting slammed. If you are using DSL or Cable modem, it is a shared connection. Typically DSL is slammed during the day as businesses use it. Cable is typically slammed at night as people get home from work/school and start using it.

192.168.2.1 is the IP address of your Belkin wireless router and not the firmware.

There should be a section within the Web interface of your wireless router to look at MAC addresses. This will tell you how many and which MAC addresses are connected to your wireless router.

Then compare it to your own MAC address. To see it, go to a Windows command prompt, type in ipconfig /all
look for the Physical Address section, which will look like this 0E-12-02 etc... compare your own MAC address to the one listed on your wireless router.
