The tail is the fat storage area, your gecko is losing a lot of weight if the tail has become obviously thin and wrinkled looking. Severe dehydration will also cause this. Has its eating pattern changed lately? A weight loss that cannot be attributed to decreased feeding is likely caused by parasites or some other type of infection. A vet visit is recommended.

Make sure the gecko is eating and drinking, a shrivelled tail is not a good sign it might be starving or dehydrated.
