You need a wireless router just hook up the wireless router to the computer that is upstair. (the manual will try you how to hook it up) as for the computer downstairs you need a wireless card but you'll need to open up your computer and on the inside will be some slots usually they are white their called pci slots you will plug the card into it. but if your not brave enough to open the computer you can get a usb wireless adapter all you do is plug it into the usb port on the outside of the computer it will detect the wireless signal and presto! both computers have acess

EDIT: Warning Geek Squad at bestbuy is a ripoff you can do this in like 10 min even if you hook it up wrong you will not harm anything

because the computers are on two different floors you have two option. 1wireless network 2wired network 3 second modem 4 power network

1 you could do a wireless network but you be pretty expensive you would need to buy a wireless router to plug you internet into and then either a pci wireless card that you would install into an empty pci slot inside you computer or a usb adapter. you would need either one for each computer. the pci card would be faster have longer distance and safer but requires instalation the usb just plugs in and hangs out the side of you computer. another option is to buy a wire less router that has a wired hub on the back so you could run your internet into the wireless router and then a cable to your computer and then a wireless signal would be brodcast to your other computer with the wireless card/usb. this option can pe unsecure umless you use networking security

2 you could make a wired network where you could run the internet into one computer and then install a second wired lan network card and run a cable up to you second computer that had a wired lan card in it. but the computer the internet ran into would always have to be on. another option to get around the computer being on would be to run the internet into a network hub and then run individual cables to the two computers.

3 you could buy a second modem and connect it like you other computer

4 or you could do a power network you run you internet into a hub and then run a cable to your computer and another cable into a network wall power adapter. you then take the second wall power adapter and plug it in next to the other computer and and run the cable from it to the computer.

you need a router, like the dsl or cable box.

if it has multiple square connections (8 wires each) you can run a network cable to the other computer from the existing router, it must have a similar connection on it to do this.

current at&t high speed routers have built in wireless in addition to the "network" 8-wire connections. so you can put a wireless card in the other computer to connect to the high speed "wirelessly"

the "geek squad" at best buy can do all of this for you.
