What kind of breeder are you looking for? Cat, dog, bird, or other pet? There are many pets who need wonderful loving homes. You can look on petfinder.com or visit an animal shelter to find a pet to adopt. You can also pick up a dog fancy or cat fancy magazine, and they provide a ton of numbers for breeders. You can also find breeders by looking in your local newspaper's classified section. The AKC has a list of dog breeders, for birds birdchannel.com, and for cats catsforyou.com. Sometimes your local veterinary office or pet stores carry numbers for a variety of animal breeders as well. If you are looking for a particular breed, look for local breed rescues to find the pet of your choice. Good luck to you.

What kind of dog do you want? Do you want to pick up the dog locally or are you willing to pay air fare?

I love my mixed breed dog that I found with people who save dogs from shelters that are planning to put them to sleep if no one rescues them.

Paddy came to me four years ago. We think he's 12. I don't know what I would do without him. I also have a 1-1/2 year old Golden Retriever from a breeder. She was supposed to be a purebred, but I'm not sure. I love her just the same. However, I also wish I had "saved" another dog that wasn't wanted anymore. I'm planning on doing this once I move. I can't urge you enough to seek a dog the way I did:

Or, go to the rescue league for one of the purebreds you want and get on the list. People acquire dogs all the time and then have to give them up for a variety of reasons.

Whichever way you go, you cannot go wrong. Animals can be such a wonderful addition to our lives.
