Look at the scope of his work! He studied everything, ergo, a
renaissance man.

Because we really don't know him that well. No, I'm not trying to be rude or enter some kind of silly question. The simple fact is that we don't know him as well as we think. With the da Vinci Code and other things concerning the master, we're once again examining who he was and what he did. And the results are absolutely astonishing. The master was a man far, far ahead of his time. And it seems he might still be ahead of us in some ways even today. He created a means to actually place a painting into the plaster of a wall, rather than painting right on the wall. His parachute, tested in recent years and claimed by experts not to be likely to work, actually proved that it could have been a life saving device. His observation of human anatomy was on par with what we know of it today. He created working robots. He literaly did so much that were out of place for his lifetime, and we are still learning how they worked.

Well it's quite simple. In his time Leonardo showed all the attributes that the Italian Renaissance tried to present. Whether it was anatomy, biology, or art. Leonardo expressed massive detail and devotion to each subject.

Leonardo was a graphic artist, etcher, architect, engineer, was fluent in several languages, a scientist, anatomist, and he travelled quite extensively.
Whilst the Renaissance produced many great artists, sculptors and writers, most of those greats achieved fame in one field only rather than in the several areas in which da Vinci shone.

Better PR men, gets his name out there, like on books and such. Seriously, I think Michelangelo is more the personification of the Renaissance. IMHO.
