We got married in July 2006 and were happily married until October 8th 2006 when he came home late and said he wanted a divorce. It took me by complete surprise but after some time and healing we are friends. I would like to remain friends but we would also like to get this divorce finalized so we can get on with our own lives.

Ok now youre legally seperated but now you have to file for an actual divorce in itself.Being friends sitting down together and work out the details will save time and costs,then file it with the courts for approval

Ask your lawyer. Used 2 when you got a separtration it was for 2 years. But i don't know what it is now ,depends on what state your in 2.Hope this helps.
