There's this one kind of ball-point pen I love, and it's hard to find. Next time I find it, I'm thinking of buying a huge supply. But will those unopened pens go bad?

Yes. It is not actually drying up, but get frozen. Even best ball pens and ball pen refills like Zebra, Parker, etc. get frozen even in Indian weather conditions. any it is some manufacturing defect. It is better to use just in one or two seasons. Don't store for lifetime consumption..
