The issue with fish is the mercury content. Too much mercury leads to a higher rate of birth defects. Different fish have different contents of mercury and are better/worse. If you are concerned talked to your obstetrician.

texas parks and wildlife has a listing of contaminated or problem fish and which lakes, areas they come from. like everyone else, mercury is the culprit. TPW specifically tells how much seafood can safely be consumed and i'm sure other sites for other states would have the same or at least be able to give you information on who to contact regarding safe seafood. good luck.

Yes. Today's local fish are poisoned with mercury from the water. Call your doctor and get advice. I believe the suggested ingestion of fish is once a week for pregnant women. You need to contact your local wildlife and fishery agency. They have more information. However, ocean fish is usually safe.

It can, depending on the type of fish and the environment they're from. Also how much is consumed, and how often. Here's a link to the EPA guidelines for eating fish and shellfish: http://www.epa.gov/waterscience/fishadvice/advice.html

You may have seen this report just out, which is the reason for your concern: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/02/15/health/webmd/main2484126.shtml

But, as the article states, there are benefits from eating fish as well, so it's best done in moderation.

I analyze this whilst i replaced into pregnant 2 years in the past. the better up the nutrition chain the fish is, the extra mercury it is composed of, and it truly is the extreme mercury levels which would be volatile to your unborn new child. Shrimp, canned easy tuna, salmon, and catfish are elementary seafoods that are low in mercury and stable for you. evade shark, swordfish, and that form of fish. this is a link to a central authority internet site approximately it:

dr's worry about high mercury levels found in some fish, like tuna. the harm is to the baby, not the mother. but it's only in excess that they really worry. a couple times a week is fine.

Large sea fish have a lot of mercury and that can be harmful.
I know my friend's wife was prego and went to dinner with us, she was couldn't eat any tuna. You should ask your doctor about details on this.

Good Luck.

Maybe, avoid top preditor fish such as swordfish, they have the highest concentrations of mercury and such. Salmon or tuna once a week or so is fine.

I heard something about this when I was pregnant. Have to be careful because too much mercury may hurt the baby. Check with your doctor to be sure.
