That's a tough one, because I believe that is a moving target. The scariest movie I ever saw was the original Night of the Living Dead. I saw it when I was a child and it was very scary. When I watch it now, I just kinda laugh at the memory of it once being so scary. Aside from Night of the Living Dead, I can't remember the last time I saw a movie and actually thought it was scary. Sure, there are the quick jump out at you, startling type scares, but nothing truly scary that has me thinking about it for days.

1. Exorcist (remember when watching it that it came out in the early 70s).
2. The Omen (also a 1970s movie)
3. Phantasm
There are all the "teen slasher" movies. Hardly scary, but good bloody fun -
Halloween
Friday the 13th
Texas Chainsaw massacre (original)

The Hills have Eyes part 2, the girl gets raped by a mutant, ewww.
Also the Nightmare on Elm Street (Freddy Kruger) Imagine, you go to sleep and don't wake up...
Although there was no blood or sliced people, the Exorcism of Emily Rose.

Carrie is pretty scary, especially that final scene, even when you know whats going to happen,it still freaks the heck out of me.But if you really want scary, anything with Pauly Shore.Just the fact he actually was allowed to make movies is scary!.....lol....seriously, I also thought Misery was scary, the way Kathy Bates dragged it out.Psycho is also pretty unnerving,as is the first Halloween. If you like retro horror, the original The Mummy with Boris Karloff is pretty intense, and even Frankenstein is still scary, especially when he drowns the little girl.I guess I like old fashioned horror, because I dont think just showing blood and guts is scary, its just gross.

The Ring ...the first is better but both are good....Cant agree on The Grudge thought it was lame but you form your own opinion. Also if its gore you want try the Saw trilogy....Have a scary journey.

Easy...the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" from 1974 or the original "Exorcist". Those 2 put the horror films of today to shame.
