I have a bulge starting right below my belly button. I thought women's bellys were supposed to be tight when they are pregnant (big but tight). Mine just feels fat

No matter what stage you are in your pregnancy, you will never feel like your body is yours. First you feel bloated and fat - this is normal. The baby isn't big enough to show, but you are retaining more water and your blood volume has increased.

Then the baby starts to get a bit bigger and your belly starts to poke out. Fortunately by then, it's hard. This is in the 2nd trimester, which is the best you will feel.

In the third trimester, the belly just gets very unwieldy (along with the rest of your body).

Even after delivery, your body still has retained a lot of the fluids and you feel so bloated and bleh.

Sorry to sound so negative, but it's the truth! Fortunately there's always the baby to take care of, so you don't think too much about it. :)

Call your dr. just to make sure, but know that you are likely fine. I had a major bleed- like a period at 13 weeks, they did a sonogram and everything was fine. It could be from sex or just added blood flow to the vagina and cervix- it's a really sensitive area. I have a healthy 11 month old son and baby 2 on the way. Your change of miscarriage after 8 weeks is only 5% and after 12 weeks it is less than 1%- you are probably fine, but get an exam just to make sure- better safe than sorry! Good luck and congratulations!

Mine didn't really start to get hard until about 15 weeks. I felt fat. It was annoying, but I knew it wouldn't be long before the fat feeling would give way and the pregnant look and feeling would come through.

You're very early to have a tight belly, that usually happens when the bulge is more pronounced. It will still feel "fat" for awhile.

Oh my dear, you are expirencing "the fat stage" some women (like me) don't look anything but chubby and tubby for the first 4 to 5 months. My lovely mama bump, hardened around the 4 1/2 months. I always wanted to be those cute little women with the perfectly round belly. yeah i didn't get that until my 7th month. now it looks like a nice beach ball stuffed under my tanks!
good luck
don't get discouraged. (wear comfy clothes, don't try to be a supermodel and sqeeze into your old jeans right now. you'll just look fatter! with a muffin top (as a I call it)

The first evidence of a "baby belly" is actually a thickening of the lining of the uterus and is a thickening of the menses, or blood, protecting your so very tiny bundle of joy in it's teensy placenta. This is the reason you are still feeling like a bowl of jello, rather than the firmness of later pregnancy.

As the baby and placenta grow, you will feel firmer because of the baby's growth and the abundance of amniotic fluid in the placenta.

Congratulations on your miracle!

Hey there :)
i am at a similar stage to you, but 14 weeks preg.
The feeling fat stage is really normal and should pass about week 16. I find that if I wear small maternity tops it makes me look less fat and more rounded, more preg, so thats what i have started doing.
Good Luck!

I am in your place to I am 11 weeks and I feel like a bloated fat cow... It will get tighter, right now your bulge it you being bloated, constipated and retaining water (i.e. most of the bulge is not your baby) don' worry your baby will catch up and as long as you eat healthy you will be all baby as they say.
