One often finds robins, etc. that are out of the nest, with no parents about, but unable to fly. Even if they eat well, most die suddenly. Why? What do people usually do wrong?

Last week I found a baby Robin that had fallen out of the nest. I called a wildlife center to get some advice, and they told me that wild baby birds almost always die when being hand-raised. It's always best to put the babies back in their nest. Their parents are probably nearby, but out of sight. The idea that "the parents will abandon a baby that get a human's scent on it" is just a myth. Most birds don't have a sense of smell.

So I picked up the baby and was able to put it back in the nest (by standing on my car's window frame). Then we backed off and just watched & waited for a while. Both the mother and father Robins came back to continue feeding their babies. :)

we handle the babies andl ike some adult parent animals they reject their babies when they pick up our human scent because they conieve them as foriegn and not theirs and therefore they die.that is if the baby bird doesn't die from fright first which many do in the hands of humans.that's why baby bird hanadlers always wear those mother head and beak feeding gloves when they raise eggs to babies.
