I don't know where you are from, but in Wisconsin I can pay $50 for a court date for child support and go to court with no lawyer and I automatically get 17% of his paycheck.

Yes. I did mine on my own. The clerk of courts will have paperwork for you to file for child support and only have to pay the filing fees and maybe the court costs which are not much. If you go to your local child services department, they may even file for you and have the child support paid through them to you for the child. Not knowing what state you live in, most have a legal aid service that will not cost you much if anything at all. Give them a call.

There should be something in your area designed to help women in your position. Check with the local aid agencies, you know, like the family assistance offices and such. They might be able to give you a referral that will help.

You could do some research on the net about companies that will help you collect child support, but be careful. There are lots out there that just scam people.

You have to go to your local county family court and file a petition for child support...You don't need to hire a lawyer for this...It will take some time before action is taken but, at least your "ex-boyfriend" will know not to take advantage of you and of the situation concerning your child.....

Cathy,
You may not need a lawyer to file for support for your child. The first thing that you can do is to go to your local or state child support enforcement office. As follows is a link that can help you get the information you need.

Child Support Services is usually available through your local court house or can at least direct you to the department that will be able to establish the correct amount of child support and enforce its collection.

Sue him yourself in family court for child support. All you have to do is tell the JUdge hes the father, produce the birthb certificate and then ask the Judge to award support. You can always contact your locallegalaid assoc or hire a Paralegal who is just as good and costs a whole lot less

It has to go to court to make him legally responsible with penalties if he doesn't pay up.
Contact Family Services in your area and ask them if they can give you a lawyer who does pro bono work in this area, or if they do it on behalf of your child, or know the proper offices to contact for this.

Save your money and check on line, they have lawyers that will give you one hour free if you pay for one houe. They also have sites online where you can get the papers for a small fee. But either way you need to get him to pay shild support on record.

Go to you local Social Services office and ask them. There are services set up in each state to collect support from non-custodial parents.
Call Legal Aid, and see if you qualify for their services.
