Of course I had a goldfish when I was a kid. This particular goldfish had a big bubble on its forehead (do fish have foreheads?). I guess it was some type of tumor thing. The poor goldfish ran into the glass and the bubble popped and it died.

Yup! When I was 10-11 I won a goldfish in a drawing, and brought him home. Not of my friends thought he'd live through the night. He's now 4 1/2 and getting pretty big.
He's a comet goldfish. :)

Oh yeah...I won them at a fair when I was little, 4 of them. I put them in my dads aquarium which was a 10 gallons, and they grew very fast so I had to put them in a 20 6 months later. I still have them today over 18 years later and they measure about 12 to 18 inches in length and are in a 150 gallon aquarium in the winter and a pond in the summer. I never thought in a million years they would last this long.

Of course! I had 4 that I got when I was five, picked up as a "promotial givaway" at a store grand opening (of couse, this meant that the parents of the kids that got them had to buy a tank, water conditioner, etc. for them, so they were hardly "free"!). My mother bought a 1/2 gallon tank for me to keep them in, but despite twice a week water changes, they all died (jumpers onto the dining room carpet). The longest lasted (somehow) 9 months in these conditions!

Yes...I won one a fish at a carnival when I was about 5. My mom was a little annoyed with me. I didn't know any better, so my lack of intelligence killed poor little Flipper. I took an old dishpan and filled it with water and just dumped the fishy in it thinking I was doing him a favor. hahaha. I can't believe I was shocked when I woke up the next morning and he was belly-up.
My aunt kept several fish through the years and is the one that actually got me started in the hobby. She eventually taught me that just dumping fish into old cleaning buckets wasn't really the way to keep 'em alive.

No, but my tiny daughter once won one at a school carnival. She named it "Mittens." Isn't that the funniest name you've ever heard for a fish? Sorry to say old Mittens went down the kitchen drain when I was cleaning his bowl. We got another at the pet store and she wasn't the wiser.

Yep - won him at the fair when I was 7. Got home and mom cleaned out an old candy bowl with bleach, didn't rinse it very well, and the fish jumped out in the night and committed suicide.

I usually had one about every other year... when I'd win one at the state fair, playing that game where you try to get a ping pong ball to go into the bowl.
