Tiles are used in restaurants and homes across the world because they are almost indestructible. Even tiles in Pompeii (after a volcano), ancient Egypt, Rome and modern Mexico to Morocco have endured countless footsteps and abuse.
Take off the golf shoes and relax! Unless you are walking over wet tile and fall, normal use won't affect them. My Austin house was tiled except in the bedrooms since it is so hot there.

I have never heard that. I tiled my Mother-in-laws house with it and she has not had any problems. Porcelain tile is very hard and I guess nails sticking out of a shoe could scratch it, but not normal shoe traffic.

Shoes with exposed nails on heels or soles will damage the surface. Also, ordinary grit and grime on shoe soles will dull the glaze as with sand, too. Not a good idea to try and reglaze ceramic tile as it doesn't work. Take shoes off at door and put on "house shoes" with soft soles.
