Argument for viewing yourself in negative way:
Some people say that How can you change your weaknesses if you do not admit that you have them.
Isn’t there a rehab program where drug addicts introduces himself "My name is - and I am a drug addict"? It makes sense to admit your weakness so you can get rid of them.

Argument for not viewing yourself in negative way:
In 1776, Franz Mesmer unveils a device called a [baquette?] at the court of Louis the XVI of France. It is an oak barrel filled with iron filings that gives off an almost imperceptible magnetic charge. Mesmer tells the assembled guests that the charge is very powerful and that if they touch it they will have pleasant convulsions. And in fact, when members of the court touch the baquette, they collapse in convulsive fits and faint. What Mezmer has discovered is the power of suggestion

So when we suggest to ourselves that we have negative characteristics we start to act accordingly

How should a person perceive himself

The answer lies in self acceptance. We are all a mass of strengths and weaknessess; that is the imperfect humaness of us all. To look at yourself realistically, seeing your imperfections and accepting them is a good thing as long as you do not kick yourself for having them. No one is perfect. See yourself, but put most of your focus on the good parts, the strengths, still admitting where you are weak. We cannot change anything until we own it, so own your weaknesses and then you can change them if they truly bother YOU!

Personally, I believe in the power of positive thinking, AND in the ability to keep one foot firmly rooted in reality while avoiding negative thoughts, ideas, and influences. It is a paradox I know, but so is much of life.
I think it is important to have a realistic view of oneself, but knowing you have a flaw and embracing that flaw aren't one and the same.
I will use a germ phobia for example. You could have this phobia for decades. You could never talk about it positively or negatively and you could still have it. If you admit that you have it, without feeling a sense of pride or accomplishment with those words, then you have taken the proverbial "first step."
I do have a germ phobia. I admit that I have it. I don't feel the least bit proud of this. I usually say, "Yes. I have a germ phobia," But this is followed closely by something like: "But I'm working on having a more realistic view of germs." And even this is not enough. In the long run it is action-- not words-- that shape us most. The words MUST be followed up by action, action, and more action! Read books on phobias, germs, and germ phobias. Seek counseling. Talk to others. Delve into your mind, your past, your soul. Words are tools. You can drag yourself down or lift yourself up with them. You influence your life with the words you speak, hear, read, and think. They are indeed powerful! (Don't swim in the negative ones.) but they alone won't sink or save you. You must act!

We like to play victims in our own lives, to say things are outside of our control when in fact everything is in our control, it would just take more effort and less laziness to achieve things rather than plesad into the culture of victimhood.
We act out on what we tell ourselves since we create our reality.
The statement is true, but I'm not buying into it, I've taken my personal power a step ahead and decided to tell myself the reality I want, not the one I am lazy enough to sort-of reach for.

I think it is stupid to try and ignore our faults. Self-improvement has to start by accepting our flaws. I think the key point is that once we have understood our flaw, to change we must believe we can change and see when we have done something different to our usual behaviour. Once we start to change our behaviour, hopefully that change will continue at a faster pace if we believe we are NOW acting more kindly/intelligently/efficiently whatever . . . .

I seams to me that the secret is to perceived our self small, so when we can make sure that what we are doing, and exercising is perception, we can see others or into another worlds, with the perspectives of been not to big, so we can pass if necessary undetected.

Yes. I agree with your opening statement. If you say, "I am lousy at this, or I am flawed how?", who is going to argue with you.
