Have you tried changing his diaper (brand) haha not just changing his diaper when it gets dirty...I'm sure you are doing that! I have been having the same problem with my son and it seems like when he uses Huggies it automatically starts getting better. He was using Pampers. Every baby is different but it's worth a shot! Oh and I also started using A&D ointment instead of Desitin before I figured out the diaper thing and it seemed to help him a little more. Anyway...good luck!!!

First off, I wouldn't use Desitin - it doesn't wipe off easily, so you're really just aggravating the rash even more when you do change him (something I learned the hard way!) Same goes for most diaper rash creams (yes, including Bourdeau's Butt Paste!) :-)
Try keeping a diaper off your son for awhile. You don't mention his age, but can he run around naked for 15 or 20 minutes at a time? - if he's still younger, try lying him on a dry towel for 10 or 15 minutes - if he DOES wet, you may have a bit of cleaning to do, but at least he's aired out some - maybe dried up that rash a bit. That's what a rash really needs - is to dry out.
Good luck! I know a rash-y baby is not a happy baby!

A&D is better than Desitin for rash. Also, we use wet baby wash cloths instead of wipes. You could also try changing wipes and getting the sensitive skin kind. It is also a good idea to let your baby go diaper free for about fifteen minutes a day. When I do this, I just play with my baby in the kitchen so that if she does have an accident it is easier to clean the lanolium than the carpet.

I happen to be a rash expert. My husband and sons all have really sensitive skin and will get rashes from everything to the wrong detergent to a house that is just a little too warm. If your son's rash looks like lots of little red bumps instead of general redness, he might have a yeast infection and the creams won't help. Try a cream for jock itch, or a yeast infection cream for women or plain unsweetened yogurt. As for wipes, save them for outings, use paper towels moistened with water at home. Let him run naked for awhile as often as you can. Try putting a handful or two of oatmeal (the kind you would put in meatloaf or cookies) in his bath water and let him soak. Then empty the tub and give him a normal bath. If he just seems to constantly have a little bit of rash, he may be reacting to the diaper. My boys have to wear Huggies, anything else and they get a rash. They can wear Parent's Choice from Walmart but they can only wear them for a few days in a row and then they will get a rash, anything else (yes, even Pampers) and their little butts turn bright red. Try a different brand of diaper and see if the rash clears up in a week. If you have tried different diapers, different creams, air, and powder (cornstarch or baby powder) and it hasn't changed in two weeks, head for the doctor, your son may need a prescription strength. We prefer Triple Paste over Desitin, and cornstarch over baby powder. Good luck, email me if you have more questions, as I mentioned, my men almost always have some kind of rash issue.

Naked time, especially in the sun. I know, the sunscreen police will have my head, but 5 minutes of sun won't kill him and the sun can kill some of the germs that cause rash. Cloth diapers are all-around awesome, and they prevent rash. Yogurt may work, but naked time is a must for a rashy butt. Besides, it's fun! Oh yeah, lose the wipes altogether. Just use washcloths with plain water. You can use old T shirts that you cut up, then you can throw them away if you want.

Change diapers I only use luvs, and by sensitive skin or natural wipes. My last baby came home from the hospital nicu with a rash that was bad enough to need cream with steroids. I threw that crap away, used balmex, and switched right to luvs, hospital uses pampers. Her rash was gone in 2 days and hasn't came back. She is now 13 wks.
Just make sure the rash hasn't turned into a yeast infection.

Not all diaper rashes contain to his contents in his diaper. If he has thrush or getting thrush it can be from that. It can also be from something your using from soap to his actual diaper. Expensive does not always mean the best. Try using the sensitive wipes or no wipes at all. I recently had twins and I know neither one of my kids can you use the alcohol wipes. Smell his diapers too, do they have a perfume smell to them?

Possibly change his diet. If he drinks juice or has sugary snacks, cut them out and see if it changes. My daughter's pediatrician said that sugar is one of the leading causes of diaper rash. She also recommended not using baby wipes at all. When the baby poops, it should be washed with warm water and a mild soap. I bought Huggies disposable wash cloths. They seem to work. The pediatrician also recommended letting her go bare butt for a little while each day.

Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio told me to mix a lotion call Aquaphor and Malox together. It's weird I know but it works. The aquaphor is kind of expensive. I also heard that they have a new prescription out for babies that suffer from diaper rash all the time due to a yeast infection. I would talk to your doctor about this. Good luck.
