Infants are unable to regulate their body temperature so they overheat very easily. Direct exposure to the sun is certainly something to limit but don't think that your baby is safe out in the heat because you have protected his skin. Heat stroke is a very real danger in infants and though it is necessary to apply sunblock, coating the skin makes it even harder for the child's body to adjust to the heat, it impedes the ability of the body to cool via sweating. Enjoy the outdoors with your baby, just be aware of the risks and protect him from the heat and sun, brief outside trips should be ok, make sure you both keep hydrated!

The sun is usually the most intense between 10 and 3, so I would avoid those. If your baby is only wearing a diaper it only takes five minutes a day of sunlight to get enough vitamin. Fully dressed, but no hat, half an hour a day. I like to take my baby outside a lot, but if we are going to be out for more than a half an hour at a time, I put sun block on her. We use California Baby.

If you're getting out for sunlight exposure because you want baby to synthesize vitamin D, then you only need a few minutes in the morning or evening. If you're going out because you can't stand your messy house anymore, then slather on sunscreen and lay baby on a blanket under a tree for as long as you like, and forget about the house. That's why I spend so much time outside!

Oh yeah, use a natural-based sunscreen from the health food store or keep a blanket over baby instead. To anyone who says that you can't or shouldn't take baby outside, that's crazy. Indoor air is far more polluted than outdoor air, so protect and play outside as long as you like!

I like to take my 7 month old son out at arond 5-6pm....that way the sun is not so strong but he still gets a good amount of sunlight.
Most babies love to be outside, just take precautions like using sunscreen (now that he or she is 6 months it is ok), putting a hat on, sunglasses if you can get your baby to wear them, etc.

at 6 months old your baby can start wearing sunscreen. use a baby variety. apply liberally.. be smart about not taking your baby out during the brightest and hottest part of the day 12-4 but otherwise enjoy the outdoors with your little one! if you do go out during these peak times, make sure your little one is lathered up, and also wearing a hat. don't stay out too long, and if you have to, then re-apply sunscreen every hour or so.

Between noon and 3 are the hottest part of the day, so avoid those times. Any other time would be great, just be sure to put sunscreen on the baby and a hat and sunglasses if the baby will keep them on.

The sun's rays are strongest between 10am and 3pm. So its best to try to avoid those times. Even at off-peak sun exposure times you'll want to remember the sunscreen. I just read in BabyTalk magazine that Hawaiian Tropic SunSure has a sunscreen that has 12.5% chemicals vs the normal 30% in other top sunscreens (www.hawaiiantropic.com). And there are UV beads that you can get that change color when exposed to UV to remind you to shade the baby from the sun (www.uvsolbeads.com).

Anytime. Early morning is best as not to get the baby overheated but I have always taken my babies out in the fresh air and sunlight since they were teeny little.
My youngest is 2 weeks and he was just out yesterday.

I wouldn't take your baby out when its too hot or too sunny. Late morning sun would probably be best, in my opinion. Baby only needs about 30 minutes of sunlight for his/her body to produce adequate vitamin D status.

Anytime is fine, but try to avoid prolonged sunlight around 3pm, this is the time when the sun is at it's strongest. Also don't use sunblock. We need the sun! Baby too. :)
