Prometheus was a demigod, one of the Titans, who was worshiped by craftsmen. When Zeus hid fire from man, Prometheus stole it by trickery and returned it to earth. As punishment, Zeus chained him to a rock where an eagle fed each day on his liver, which grew again each night; he was rescued by Hercules. A promethean is one who worships Prometheus and mournes for his suffering and praises Hercules his savior. An ion is an atom or molecule with a net electric charge due to the loss or gain of one or more electrons. In conclusion, a Promethean ion is a science buff follower of Prometheus who enjoys electroshock therapy and sees oneself as a miniscule part of a massive plan of world domination.

There is no such thing as a "promethean ion." Project Prometheus was established in 2003 by NASA to develop nuclear-powered systems for long-duration space missions. The system that they are developing is a form of ion propulsion powered by a small nuclear reactor. The system has been referred to as "Prometheus ion propulsion."

A promethium ion, on the other hand, is an ion of the element promethium.
