GMAIL is leaps and bounds above the rest to me. It's super fast, reloads quickly, detects 98% of spam like no other, and just has a great interface to it. I would never use anything else.

I vote also for gmail. It is simple to use it has lots o other stuffs to interconnect because google use google accounts and you can get acces to all their services not to mention iGoogle, the personalised Home Page. It has a great spam protection, over 2,7Gb space and counting, and it has POP acces for free. Yahoo mail offers unlimited spam protection and pop acces for charge.
You can verify your mail over a phone at http://m.gmail.com or simply http://gmail.com. It also can offer for free of course an application downloaded from their site which can connect you automatically to your mailbox.
Another stuff could be the ads. Gmail has no buggy ads.
I use Yahoo account for messenger, all my friends has it.
I heard that passwords from Yahoo and Hotmail can be cracked quite simple and that made chose the Gmail once again. It could seem I'm a Google fan but in fact I discovered in time that they simply offers me all the best... secured and for free.

Gmail all the way!! Hotmail was the first one I ever got, but I never liked it. I just use it for chatting with friends now. Yahoo just sucks period. I only use it for answers/360 page. Gmail deserves a whoohoo. Whoooohooooo!!! =)

I use gmail. There spam detection is great. I tried the new yahoo beta email, but it was too jerky & it takes too long to load. I actually have one of each of the accounts you mentioned, but again gmail is my personal fav.

I vote in this order: gmail, yahoo, then msn (hot mail beta, available only on dsl)

yahoo mail its simple and you can recieve it even on your phone not too mention with a yahoo account you get tons of other benefits i have had hotmail not as nice as yahoo in my opinion but its up to you they are free so we not try them out
