What exactly are people unhappy about?

Is it that they have electricity and clean, running water 24/7? Is it because they have air conditioning? Is it because more than 95% of people who want to work have a job? Is it because there's more food in a regular supermarket than in some third-world cities? Is it because they're free to move about at will? Is it because more than 70% of them are homeowners? Is it because they have complete religious, social, and political freedom?

The world doesn't hate America and it doesn't hate President Bush. The United States is the envy of the entire world but is also seen as the world's largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats. Americans are the most blessed people in the world and yet do nothing but complain about what they don't have and what they hate about being Americans rather than thanking their God that they live there.

We're not spoiled.

We're wealthier per capita than every country on earth - with the possible exception of a few small oil-rich sultanates which doesn't do anything for you if you're not the sultan.

And we've created the wealth that we own - it's not like there's a fixed pot of wealth and we grabbed more than our share - - wealth is created, we're free to create more of it and so we did.

I'm VERY happy about that.

The world DOES hate America and Bush, and it makes travel less safe.

Religous freedom? Not if there's no freedom FROM Religion.
Atheists are bashed in the name of money and intimidation. The sheep might actually LEARN something, for chrissakes!

The war in Iaq is a 400Billion dollar American soilder killing machine. Not good.

And, only in America do you have a reactive, right wing front that doesnt know hopw hateful towards its own people it sounds when it bashes its fellow Americans (i.e., liberals)

This country is going in the wrong direction:Backwards.

In my lifetime, I'm 44 years old and have never been more disappointed with the direction of this country.

My dissatisfaction stems from our government's mishandling of Arab countries. Ignorance of Arab culture has led us to the current conundrum.

We as a country will never be safe as long as we value profits over peace and understanding. It's childish to wag the " We're #1" foam finger instead of looking deeply and honestly at ourselves. We are not perfect, just a country. We shouldn't assume superiority as a birthright. We have work to maintain our position in the world. Our elected officials have decided that's easier to just be America, to take and do as it pleases.

The Bill or Rights has a little amendment which protects my right to disagree with anything my country does. We could have remained a jewel in the British crown if it weren't for some dissatisfied individuals. I don't have blind faith in the government. None of us should.

If the Americans hadn't made demands for more, more, more in the past then we wouldn't have what we have now. The barking dog gets fed. We have the Union, medical benefits, equal rights for all colors. What has the past shown us? If you want something then you need to speak up! Don't forget that us people are America. Be thankful that we have rights to post our opinions on these boards at all.

Very true! Besides people should be grateful we can say whatever we want, even outsiders can say whatever they want, and our government wont close the TV stations so we cant air our disagreements with the government, like it's happening in Venezuela. Hey, but "our" president is the devil according to paranoic and lunatic Hugo Chavez.

What do Cindy Sheean and Danny Glover have to say about their friend Chavez now????

"67% of Americans unhappy with direction of country"

key word: DIRECTION

your cut & paste job makes no reference to the direction we are going. if the poll question was "are you happy living in America" i'm sure 67% would not be unhappy.
sure we take our luxeries and freedoms for granted sometimes but that's not the point.

this is a perfect example of how polling and spinning and cutting & pasting works.

and who is directing this country?

the corrupt careerists in congress yet we continue to re-elect them year after year.

do you think we should look at ourselves for what is wrong today.

someone once said doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.

well take a look at the number of people in congress that have never had a job outside of politics, or who have been in congress for more that 12 years.

that is insanity, and it is the voters fault.

the vote has failed if you have not noticed and we need term limits now more than ever before in history.

I agree completely! What in the heck do you have to be unhappy about america?

**Maybe it is the ability to drive from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move through each state? Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide shelter? I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just not good enough. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all and even send a helicopter to take you to the hospital.

**Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a fire, a group of firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames thus saving you, your family and your belongings. Or if, while at home watching one of your many TVs, a burglar intrudes, an officer equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss.

**This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs or militias pillaging the residents. Neighborhoods where 90 percent of teenagers own cell phones and computers. How about the complete religious and political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world? Maybe that is what has 67 percent of folks unhappy.

**Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world has a great disdain for our citizens. They see us for what we are. The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about what we don't have, and what we hate about the country instead of thanking the good Lord we live here.

**I know, I know. What about the president who has a measly 31 percent approval rating? Is this the same president who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11? The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there defending you and me?

**Did you hear how bad the President is on the news? Did this news make you so unhappy you couldn't take a look around for yourself and see all the good things and be glad? Make no mistake about it. The troops have volunteered to serve, and in many cases may have died for your freedom. There is currently no draft in this country. They didn't have to go.
* *So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of Americans? Say what you want but I blame it on the media. If it bleeds it leads and they specialize in bad news. Insane!

Stop buying the negativism you are fed everyday by the media. Shut off the TV, and use the New York Times for the bottom of your bird cage. Then start being grateful for all we have as a country. There is exponentially more good than bad. We are among the most blessed people on Earth and should thank God several times a day, or at least be thankful and appreciative. With hurricanes, tornados, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks,

Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of our country?

Happiness! Everybody is looking for happiness. What makes people happy? It is that place just over the horizon. It is the pursuit of the next goal in our lives. When we achieve it, it no longer satisfies us. That is the human condition.
