Yes America tried , they took a vote of all the people and they voted no for becoming a State in the USA. Really can you blame them after this last 6 years. I'd love to live there they have become the land of the home and free, a beautiful country and no BUSH to have to listen to and hate.

Puerto Rico is a latin american nation. It is spanish speaking, catholic and has over 500 years of common history with the spanish countries (specially Cuba).
Puerto Rico is a self governing country with an association (or compact)with the US called Commonwealth or Free Association. It is not a part of the US since it is not an incorporated territory (like US virgin islands) or state (like Hawaii). I t is an unincorporated commonwealth. Puerto Ricans are also Statutory us citizens, which means that a law of congress can take away this anytime, that is why Puerto Rico does not vote in US elections, because it is not part of, it only has a special relationship that some call it a pseudocolonial relationship while others call it a treaty between these two nations

I would like for it to happen, I love Puerto Rico and the people there are for the most part wonderful, warm, friendly, passionate, which is why it is not going to happen soon, one side represents about 51% who want it, then they other side sways some folks and then they have 51% who do not.

We had dinner last night with friends from San Juan, American husband, Puerto Rican wife, she wants statehood, he does not, go figure.

Don't think people here in the states want that. The majority of people doesn't even know that PR is a Commonwealth of the US. so here is the factor of ignorance as max. Opinion of a true american that is very wide North, Central and South America are consider americans in the true meaning of the word americas. Now if you want the opinion of people from the USA and maybe born here that is different.

Like ''Brad'' says, if Puerto Rico becomes our 51st state, the flag will have 1 more star. They would have their own star on our flag, just like all 50 states now, each have a star on our national flag.

NO! I would rather Puerto Rico become a self-sustaining democratically elected nation of it's own. Why would any Puerto Rican citizen want to become further enslaved by the owners of the Federal Reserve?

Most Americans are utterly clueless about the fact that the Federal Reserve is a privately owned corporation and most American politicians (Ron Paul aside) are merely puppets to the owners of the Federal Reserve. It's the single most devastating political issue to the ordinary citizen but the media won't touch it because their paychecks are signed by the same people who control the Federal Reserve.

The owners of the Federal Reserve want Puerto Rico to become a state. In fact they want economic domination of the entire planet. If you want to be burdened with more taxes, more regulation and more public debt to pass on to your children so they are further bankrupted by the owners of the Federal Reserve then by all means come and join us.

i personally do not want it to be a state. It has nothing to do with spanish speaking people either.
i believe Puerto Rico should be their own independent nation. If anything that island is a drain on america and its resources.

The U.S. might as well make them a state there giving every thing else away.
