The ancient Chinese secret is..................Calgon laundry detergent!
There was a commercial for it in the 70's. I was really little, the memory is vague, but it was something about a lady picking up her clothes from the cleaners, and asking "how do you get the clothes so clean" or "how do you keep the stains off". The person was told "Ancient Chinese secret!", and then you see this other person in the back using Calgon laundry detergent. There may be a real one, I dunno, but when you hear people say this, it is typically a joke derived from this commercial.
I don't even know if they still make that stuff. I only see Calgon bath products these days.

Okay, maybe there's a fourth:
It's also an advertising device used by Calgon (or its advertising agency) to build on the fact that most laundries at a certain time in the USA were run by Chinese immigrants and that the majority of the population in the USA thinks that "Oriental" or "Chinese" indicates some set of secrets that will help achieve whatever.
For example: the success of "Karate Kid", the movie.
In conclusion: It's all about marketing.

A commercial from a long time ago made reference to an ancient chinese secret, I think it had something to do with laundry.
