I have a 9 yr old boy who has severe global delays, also demonstates autisitic characteristics. I am looking for ways to help him learn and communicate. He currently has a preschool level of education, understands counting, letter sounds, shapes, colors, basic pre-school stuff. If you have any ideas, or suggestions, let me know. I am looking for web sites that have help teaching children in his position.

First, if you have not already, connect with a local Autism group for assistance, like NAAR (http://www.autismspeaks.org). They can really be invaluable to help find local social activities for your son, and it can connect you with other parents that will have the best resources for your area.

Here are some good places online:

http://www.dotolearn.com/
This site sells some stuff, but they have a fantastic section of free hands-on tools and activities for students of all ages, but primarily Preschool - 4th grade stuff.

http://www.wrightslaw.com/links/free_pubs.htm#autism
This site is more of the education and awareness side of things. It cites several law resources and federal program guides, etc. Good to learn more about autism in general, which will help with engaging your son every step of the way.

http://www.wingslearningcenter.org/resources_4/resources4.html
This is the links page from the Wings Learning Center website. Their site is very basic, but they have an extraordinary list of external resource website links available.

I hope this information helps. Best of luck to you and your family - you're doing a great job!
