I am polling people to find out what they think of abortion, what they believe( or don't believe) the government should do about abortion, and how they think abortion affects society as a whole.

I dislike abortion, but I still want it to be legal. I think a government-run war on abortion would cause more problems than it would solve. I think it would be as ineffective as the government-run war on drugs and the government-run war on poverty.

Rather than make abortion illegal, the best way to reduce abortion is to reduce unwanted pregnancies. We can do that by increasing birth control usage and by making birth a more viable option (such as promoting adoption).

We can all work together towards the agreeable goal of eliminating the need for abortion.

I think Abortion hurts everyone involved. No that is my opinion on Abortion now ask me should it be made illegal cause those are 2 different questions. I am Pro-Choice 100%. You are an idiot if you believe that those of us who are pro-choice think Abortion is grand we know it sucks but that's not the issue. The issue is the governments right to have that kind of power over what we do with our bodies. And that my friend is the million dollar question. As for it's effect on society you tell me where you would place a couple hundred thousand EXTRA unwanted children a year. Not is this country's already failing, underfunded and seriously neglected foster care system I hope.

Should abortion be legal? Yes!

Two reasons.

1) The government has no business interfering with a persons life.

2) There are two ways of defining life. The first is through religion. Religion says that a baby is alive at the moment of conception (or atleast thats what the christian rligion says)

Science says that a fetus is NOT alive until is it able to survive outside of the womb.

Regardless of which definition you personally believe, the U.S. constitution is based on the principle of the seperation of church and state. This means not only are you not supposed to use religious definitions to define laws, but it is illegel to.

Therefore, the constitution dictates that the scientific definition of life is used to determine when a fetus is considered a living being. As science does not define a first trimester fetus as being a living viable being, it would be unconstitutional for thegovernment to tell people that they cannot abort.

While you may not agree with this, the constitutiongives people the right to make these decisions on their own, not based on what onereligious group dictates and that is why abortion should be legel.

Before I get into my view on abortion I think preventing pregnancy should be addressed, especially teen pregnancy. The government should set up a program to provide low cost or free birth control for young women. While it may encourage young girls to have sex because they have easy access to contraception - the ones that are going to have sex regardless will also have access to it and it can possibly prevent so many young women having unwanted pregnancies. I think that outweighs the negative. I mean, there are programs for low cost or free spay/neutering for ANIMALS. Why not people?

Now, abortion - I think it should be a case-by-case basis. I don't think it should be completely illegal. For one: this is why we find dead babies in toilets and trash cans at school. More girls are going to hide their pregnancies and cause harm to their babies and to themselves because they won't seek proper help or try their own methods of home abortions. Yes this has happened. If the baby is a result of a rape or if it puts the mothers life in danger - she should have the option to abort. If it's a young 13, 14 year old girl - she should have the option. If it's a 20-something year old girl who very well could support a child but just doesn't want to - sorry.

Illegalizing abortions are going to cause more harm than good. The percentage of people on welfare will rise and girls will do things to harm themselves to try and terminate the pregnancy.

I believe that abortion should not be used as birth control. If you are dumb enough to have unprotected sex then you should raise your child to be smarter than you are. In some cases though abortion is necessary, rape victims who become pregnant, victims of incest who become pregnant and a mother that is faced with a life threatening pregnancy. There have been mothers who have gotten pregnant with multiple babies and the only way to have any viable children without killing the mother was to decrease the number of fetuses. I know that people think that is wrong but if the mother won't be there to raise the children then those children suffer.

Abortion in most cases is just a very selfish act by a person that can not or will not stand up and deal with a problem. Women will kill their unborn while other women travel all over the world to adopt. Not surprising these days.
I think the government should stay out of it. The decision is between the person and their god, if they have one.

It's wrong.

"An abortion kills the life of a baby after it has begun. It is dangerous to your life and health." -Planned Parenthood 'Plan Your Children' pamphlet, 1963.
[Of course you won't hear PP mention this today]

There is a common misconception about what abortion does to individuals and to our society as a whole. Many people believe that women can have an abortion, and that it won't further affect anyone after the termination of the pregnancy. This is untrue. The person that abortion affects the most is the fetus itself. The fetus' life is terminated, oftentimes painfully, and it will never have the opportunity to experience the happiness of life. However the effects don't stop at just the fetus.

I think that its pretty pathetic that a kid cant get an aspirin at the school clinic...But then can go and get a procedure done on them like that without parent consent. Abortion is not a quick fix for anything.....It is a high-risk procedure and when girls go into those clinic they are told that its simple will be over and everything will be fine. WRONG....They will have all kinds of guilt later on...and it could end up being the biggest regret that they have in their life. They aren't told that their baby has a heart beat and is a human life. I guarantee if girls actually knew what happened to their baby then they wouldn't have it done. Abortion is murder....and is sickening...and I feel really bad for the un educated girls who get it done...Its not good for them or the baby for SO many reasons. Millions of life are lost do to abortion each year...My mother councils them everyday and its heartbreaking what she sees.

I think abortion is necessary, and I believe that it is up to the woman to make that decision.
