it's all of the above you mentioned and the fact that they are being treated like celebs, private jets, money thrown at them, photo shoots..........etc if the Maddy hadn't been taken people would be saying what selfish people they are and they should be charged with neglect, but because she has gone missing some people feel sympathy with them.

My main reason is that what they did was wrong, cruel and neglectful, under usual circumstances if parents went out for dinner leaving three under four year olds home alone, they would be prosecuted, and maybe have their children taken into care for their own safety and wellbeing. What I object to are the "OK" magazine style posed photos, the cosy chats with the Pope, and everyone saying poor old Gerry and Kate! What about poor little Madeleine? If they had carried out their parental duties properly in the first place none of this would have happened.
So thats why I have bad feeling towards them. I am a mother and have never left my child alone so i could go out on a jolly, I may not be perfect, far from it, but my childs welfare is the most important thing in my life.

I don't ever remember another missing childs parents acting this way. Think of Denise Bulger, Sarah Payne's Mother Holly & Jessica's parents, Dawn Burton, Kerry Needham and countless others I could go on and on and throughout it all I never recall any of these parents setting up a limited company for donated money and keeping an online diary boasting about daily running marathons and trying to out do each other's achievements. I met Keith Bennetts mother many years ago and not a day goes by nearly 40 years on that she does not put on her hat and coat everyday and walk the streets searching and looking for her son. Denise Bulger also searched the streets until her son was found day and night. All these parents share one thing in common they were so distraught they left no stone unturned to find their children. None had immaculate make up and hair they all looked dishrevelled on TV. None of these parents were negligent and none of these parents could get back to any type of normality whilst there children were missing. So I think the reason the public are a bit gob smacked is that the McCanns seem to be just getting on with daily lives. Laughing in the park. I am not saying that they will never laugh again with their twins but so soon, the poor childs hasn't been gone that long. Lets not forget that some monster may have this little girl and doing goodness knows what to her. It is unbearable to think about it as a mother surely that would be haunting you day and night but the thought would be in your mind, the last thing you would want to do is use your energy running up mountains and your husband doing his best to beat you at it. I am sorry but its madness. That is why the McCanns seem to be getting up everyone's nose.

The news of the day causes debate here and in the work place in lawyers offices and in printing press rooms. Its a matter of fact whether people like it or not or think certain issues should be immune for intolerance and hate etc..
I asked my father what are people talking about and he said the kidnapping... there are really mixed views....
To everybody who has taken part here and seen the news ask your freinds and family what they think...It really divides people in all communities who accept that either they need help and understanding and kindness and compassion and the others who think they need to be punished..
There are more injustice each and every day to many people in this country and the world and everybody justs get on with it the best way they can... the same with the McCanns but for them it has been because their daughter was taken and has prompted massive support from many kind people and criticism from many people who see the unfairness of the situation the fact that in the McCanns case so far the scales are imbalanced.

I am horrified that the child was taken, that is my worst fear. On the other hand the parents left their child alone, something I would never in a million years think of doing not even to take out the trash, They are at fault as far as I'm concerned. I could care less about the celebrities helping in the search. Bottom line, the parents are to blame and you'd think since they were doctors they would know better.
I hope they learned a valuable lesson.
I also hope Madeline is found alive. If the parents wouldn't have left their child alone we wouldn't be discussing this.
Shame on them, I don't care how cold it sounds anyone who loves their children would agree

When the world hears a story they react according to their laws and their life experience. Maybe the story should have stayed in Britain and with the people of the vacation spot. This could be an example of how laws do not cross borders even though the news brings a crime to the public. Personally; A unity of convenience such as this story can only cause unwillingness to unite for a cause. We are making progress with dialogs and bridging the gap between many people. why say words like( easy target) ?

I think the problem is that the British Press, just for a change, went completely over the top. Newspapers in the USA tended to question why on earth three infants were flown into a strange, foreign environment and not taken to a holiday area in the UK such as Cornwall. The Southern European reaction (Spain, Italy, Portugal, Riviera, etc) was MUCH more critical. They absolutely blamed the parents for leaving their three infants alone without even a baby sitter.

I think it's a combination really. Of course we disapprove of them leaving their children, for which we are called hypocrites! Lol. We also think that the whole Press/McCann thing has got out of hand and that the McCanns appear to be enjoying their celebrity rather too much. We are also staggered that they h ave not use the donations to hire private detectives, as it does not a
ppear that the local police are ever going to get their act together. Finally, we are not impressed by their blogs because we are not interested in Kate's jogging prowess. We would rather they had gone to Morocco where the only possible siting took place. I, personally, have been roundly abused for voicing my opinion but it's a free country and other people who have opposing views are free to air them, provided they are not abusive.

ok here is my honest answer, a week ago i really and truly felt for the parents, i supported them, and sympathised with them.
Not anymore though, there are several reasons why not...
firstly, the fact that mr and mrs mccann appear to be more concerned in hireing lawyers to deal with the money thats been donated, speaking to gordon brown on the phone, setting up websites, visiting the pope and making music videos than actually looking for maddie, they have shown no emotion at all, mrs mccann is regulary in the paper with perfectly applied make up and immaculate clothes, these things would be the last things on my mind.
I decided to read gerry mccanns blog on the find maddie website and i could not believe it.Maddie was mentioned about 3 times max, he spent more time telling us that mrs mccann loved running, and they managed to run to a certain monument in 19 minutes one day, i mean frankly who cares a ****??
if he must leave a blog, why doesnt he write about how destroyed and emotionally drained they are?
he seems to think they are like celebritys, but what about maddie??
the world is insane
sorry if i offended anyone, but if it was my 4 year old daughter i would not leave my twins with anyone like they do on a daily basis, i would be insane with worry.
I respect everyones opinions, this is merely mine
Just read gerrys blog again and madeleine was mentioned 3 times, unbelievable

because they left there children alone in a hotel so they could go and stuff there faces with food and you have to think what is more important to them there kids or food? and now they are running to the press every chance they get! there is something very wrong going on to my mind. they should get out there looking for Madeline not keep running to the press and going off to see the pope and anyone else famous.
also in todays sun news paper the mother Kate said its the first time i have left the twins going off to see the pope well that's a lie she left them to go and have her dinner when Madelaine went missing!
