I wish I could give you a date. We always blame ourselves and we shouldn't.
We trust that they are the persona that they project. Often times their true persona is hidden by charm or seeming maturity.
It's difficult to assess someone's true nature when they keep it so well hidden. This in not your character flaw, it is his.
