yes...i went into kmart barefoot one time to buy shoes (the shoes i'd worn the day before gave me huge blisters on my feet, and i was staying with a friend who has much smaller feet, so i couldn't borrow any from her)...so i walked in, paid for a pair of sandals, and put them right on my feet...the cashier had to pick her jaw up off the floor...it was funny, i guess you had to be there.

Yes, everything I have bought in the past ten years I have bought barefoot. Now I'm not in the US, but I've written with a lot of US barefooters and even in the US, it's not true that 'most' stores have a sign saying shoes are required, at least not in most areas... these US barefooters go to the store barefoot all the time too and some stores have signs requesting shoes, and sometimes they get asked to wear footwear, but not that often. Most of the time no one says a thing.
And even when there are signs, this is a store dress code ONLY. There are NO health laws requiring footwear in stores, and insurance companies don't require or even recommend footwear for customers. Nor is it dangerous to go barefoot; we're at far greater risk of picking something up through our hands, our skin is made to keep pathogens out but with our hands we transfer germs from shopping carts, door knobs, money etc to our food and face. Glass isn't any great risk either, I never divert my step no matter how much glass I see, I get a tiny splinter maybe once a year, never had a cut, never had even the smallest splinter indoors. Only the US has anti-barefoot myths; in most other countries, including Western Europe, you won't find any signs against barefoot customers, and most people believe barefooting to be very healthy.

Yes..but I live at the beach...
However, MOST establishments will not allow you in barefoot...RESTAURANTS especially...(health laws, you know)...I think shoes of some sort (even flip-flops) should always be worn when out shopping (or even getting gas)...with all the nasty germs and stuff out there, you never know who or "what" has walked before you!

No way! I remember some people who ran a hardware store they walked in barefoot, and the floors were hardwood, but I don't feel it is safe.
