It's not a waste of time. Often complaints are handled by an office higher up in the chain of command so it will be dealt with. I'm not saying that you will obtain a refund/compensation but you can feel certain that taking some time out of your day will make the hotel better for the next visitors. (at the very least you'll get good karma out of it)
My advice is that if you're a member of their frequent guest program to include that on the complaint. It draws their attention, especially if you're in a premium category.

You are more likely to get somewhere if you have a real complaint and you make it in the correct way. I once complained about a sailing holiday and got back a lot of money.
You have to clearly state the problem/s (bullet points are good). Tell them how these affected you - and here "spoiling the enjoyment of the holiday" counts in your favour - and tell them what you want them to do about it. It's best to keep it as brief as possible too!
You may not get cash back immediately. They may have the cheek to offer vouchers...but don't give up too easily if they do.
Always keep a copy of what you have written.
Good luck.

Depends on where you want to go.
Fact is you should have made the complaint while you where there, not when you got home. Now is kind of late and likely won't have much effect. Why do you want to complain? Whatever happened is over and you are none the worse for wear. Just put it behind you and let it be done.
Unless you feel they owe you some money, there is no reason to complain now. Even then, like I said you should have done this before you left.

If we do not express our concerns or complaints to a
company, hotel, etc. than how will they ever know that
their guess was displeased or unhappy or had a
complaint about the services. Good Housekeeping
magazine has a section: Where they even help
their readers in this area.

Complain. We did when we were there and as we queued at the airport the rep came over to us and gave us a refund (we had a overnight trip to a different hotel than the one we stayed in for the rest of the holiday and it wasn't up to scratch).

You will get results...provided you take your claim to the hotel's corporate office. If you complain to the hotel itself, it will just gets swept under the rug by their management. Point out your complaint on the company's website...be polite and concise with your email. You'll get some kind of comphensation.

You will never know until you complain. If it was a package holiday you would have had to complain to the rep at the time.

provided you voiced your grievance to your rep while you were away you should have a chance getting somewhere. Good Luck
