I always thought it was a good thing. When I said that I was doing that, I meant that I wanted to place them above all else and everyone else. I didn't believe the person was perfect or needed to be perfect, I just thought highly enough of them to raise them above the crowd.
In my case though, the girl who I had placed on a pedestal did not want to be placed higher than everyone else and did not like it. She wanted me to treat her like everyone else - not special.
