The earth will do just fine without our intervention.

Never.

People don't care enough. When the Inconvenient Truth came out, everyone went to see it. They were aware and began saving our earth for about a week, and gave up. We love our technology and comforts too much to give any of them up. Perhaps a few will do so, but I doubt a lot will stop what they're doing and completely change their way of life to save the earth. Because quite frankly, nobody cares enough.
